Puttu

Despite being siblings in the same litter, Puttu is clearly the older one. She too is only 5 months old like Kadala is but she’s effortlessly graceful in her manner. Her snowy white nose accentuates the roundness of her eyes and when she sits upright, she’s got the airs of a queen about her. When she moves around, her every step is elegant and intentional. When she leaps 5 feet in the air to catch the laser dot, she has the explosive power of a lioness. When her sister is too annoying, she will smack her on the head with her tiny little white paw. And yet, she is still a baby in all the ways a baby can baby. When she wakes up, she will sit at the edge of my bed till I notice and call her over to give her the head rubs and belly scratches she undoubtedly deserves. When she’s hungry, she’s loud and cranky. When she has her zoomies, she can’t tell the difference between kadala’s tail and her own as long as it’s something to chase. Sometimes, In her sleep I see her legs twitch and wonder if she’s having a nightmare. I want to scoop her up, hold her tight, look into her dark, round eyes and tell her it will be ok but it’s best to let her sleep. On most nights, Kadala will find her way to her sleeping sister and squeeze into the little space they’ve learned to call their own and there, in the security of each other’s presence, battle whatever battles they’re fighting in their kitty dreamlands.
