There are still beautiful things in the world

There are still beautiful things in the world. Some days, in particular, one needs to be reminded of that most basic fact about this life. In the immediate aftermath of a rejection—which in this case was not even a rejection—the thoughts are often negative; sometimes it’s okay to embrace that feeling, indulge it even. Other times, one needs to put in the 5 extra steps to move forward. To lug the suitcase of self-doubt and self-pity, and anxiety to whatever restaurant or theatre you’re invited to, and force some conversation even if it’s blocking the aisle. To haul your ass to Darjeeling Café at rush hour during dinner service, when there are still people waiting to get in, because you know the crew will lead you to the table at the back and serve you chai and momos even if you don’t ask for it. That suitcase will empty itself somewhere during the course of the day, because, at the end of the day, it was never your burden to carry anyway. This world—this life you have built—is greater than the collection of momentary disappointments. A life of summery joys.
